 | Dr. Carter was born in Maryland. He spent his early years in Baltimore where he attended elementary school, high school, and received a bachelor’s degree from Loyola College in 1980.
In 1984, he received his dental degree from the University of Maryland Dental School. He was graduated Magna Cum Laude with several scholastic achievement awards and was ranked seventh out of 124 dental students. After graduation, he was commissioned by the United States Air Force as a dental officer and he completed an advanced general dentistry residency during the first year of his Air Force career.
After eight years as a general dentist, Dr. Carter earned a highly competitive Air Force scholarship and attended the University of Michigan where he received his Master of Science degree in Orthodontics. He chose the University of Michigan because it is a traditional leader in the field of orthodontic research and education. Dr. Carter is a certified, orthodontic specialist that uses only proven and predictable state-of-the-art techniques. As a bonus for his patients, his past advanced general dentistry experience keeps Dr. Carter mindful of his patient’s general dental health while he orthodontically designs a winning smile for each child or adult.
Dr. Carter served his country in Arizona, England, Japan, and at the Air Force Academy. He left the Air Force in 1996 after twelve years of honorable service during which he was decorated with the Commendation and Meritorious Service medals. Professionally, he is a published scientific author, is board eligible, and he is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, and is a member of the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic Research.
Dr. Carter and his wife Julie were married in 1984. They have a son, Garrett, and a daughter, Devan. He and his family keep in shape by enjoying outdoor activities all year long. He also likes snowboarding, flyfishing, photography, singing and playing the guitar, riding motorcycles, restoring antique clocks, and eating a good steak!
